I went for beers on Friday to the Kingston Taphouse after work. I think there are not nearly enough bars with patios in Vancouver, but the Kingston has a nice little one. Tucked in next to the Telus building it doesn't really have much of a view and it doesn't get much sun because of all the buildings around it, but I still like it. I sort of feel like I'm in a bigger city than Vancouver when I sit there drinking a beer. Anyway, we started with some of their dry ribs which were kind of disappointing. Well the ribs themselves weren't disappointing, it was more the portion size. At nine dollars for an order I had hoped for more. It also came with this chili dipping sauce that was kind of not needed. I'm not sure I'd get them again.
The nachos we ordered later on the other hand were more than generous. It was a huge platter, though it could have used more cheese. I found it kind of ironic that the menu specifically said "no skimping on the cheese." I think that they didn't charge extra for guacamole though. I hate it when places do that. They were pretty much like every other order of nachos I've had in the city. Nothing special other than the portion, which even with seven of us we didn't finish. I would get them again.
I usually go to the Kingston Tap House before a concert at GM Place, since it's so nearby. It was funny because when I ate there before The Police concert the place was packed and they were playing Police music in the restaurant. Same thing before the Roger Waters concert; the place was packed and they were playing Pink Floyd music.
I've had the salmon burger--it's quite good!
