I went for smoked meat today at Dunn's. I love smoked meat sandwiches. There is something terrific about them. While the sandwich earlier this week from La Bottega was great because of off the toppings, a smoked meat sandwich is great for its simplicity. Rye, mustard and meat. Lots of meat. Piled high. High enough that you have to eat a little with a fork before you attempt to pick it up. The smoked meat at Dunn's is solid. To be sure, it is no Schwartz's, but if you are having a craving it will fit the bill nicely. I had the combo. Sandwich, fries, coleslaw and a pickle. The sandwich was good as expected, lots of meat. A good balance of lean and fatty. The pickle was OK, the coleslaw was unremarkable, but the fries were terrible. Very greasy, very soggy. I only picked at them. But this wouldn't stop me from going again the next time the smoked meat craving hits because the sandwich was spot on. Just what I expected and wanted. I just may not order the combo next time. Maybe a sandwich and a bowl of soup.
For smoked meat in Ottawa, I'm more of a Nate's person. Have you tried the Dunn's meat at Costco?

Dunn`s Ottawa is a disgrace and disgusting. The meat tastes boiled rather than smoked. Not even close to the Dunn`s in Montreal. I would say that it`s being cooked by sloppy teenagers.
