I loved lunch so much, I dragged Daphne back for a late night snack at Murray Street. Well, maybe dragged is the wrong word, she didn't put up much of a fight. We sat at the bar this time and ordered their charcuterie, really just a fancy name for meat and cheese. I didn't need or want a full meal, just a late night snack and a glass of wine. We went for three meats and two cheeses. A cure wild boar, a venison and hazelnut terrine and a duck liver mousse for the meats. The cheeses were a pepato goat cheese and a moldy brie that was called on the menu blue bry. It all came with a little red pepper jelly, a Saskatoon berry compote, a few olives and a mix of bread including my favourite, the Art-is-in multigrain baguette. The best thing on the plate was the boar. It had a delicate gamey flavour. I'll get that again for sure next time. The terrine and the mousse were great too, but sort of what I expected, the boar though was a big surprise. The cheeses were tasty too. The goat cheese though was far more interesting than the mouldy brie which was good, but nothing special. The peppercorn crusted goat cheese was great though and I'd get it again for sure.
We also split a dessert, something that we didn't have a lunch. On the advice of our very helpful server we had the chocolate pudding. It came with a salty caramel and a orange and ginger compote. Delicious. I loved the saltiness of the caramel compared with the rich dark chocolate. I'm very glad I've found Murray Street and that their kitchen stays open late.
