Driving down the highway, I wondered aloud to Daphne at what point was it too early to eat barbecue. After spending the night somewhere in North Carolina and heading back out on our journey, I was trying to figure out at what time it was we were going to hit Charlotte and if it was really too early to eat lunch. As it was, it was about 11 a.m. by the time we hit Charlotte and after running an errand, it was about 11:30 a.m., late enough we both figured to have lunch at Bill Spoon's. We had been in September when we went to her cousin Joe's wedding. Then, we headed straight from the airport. As we pulled up, we weren' the only ones getting an early start on lunch. There were already several cars in the parking lot. Sipping the sweet tea, I knew that we were in the South and getting close to our destination in Cordele. There is something about that intensely sweet ice tea that you just don't get here that I really love. We both had exactly the same thing again, though this time we took a pass on the banana pudding. The barbecue plate with Brunswick and slaw. I loved it. The sauce was as fantastic as I remembered and the hushpuppies as light and delicate as ever. I was so excited to have Bill Spoon's barbecue twice in just a couple of months. I don't know when I'll get to go back, but it won't been soon enough.
