After so long a break in blogging I wasn't sure where to start, there have been so many great meals I've cooked at home or eaten out that I want to share. But after some thought about it, the answer was pretty easy.
Daphne and I spent Christmas and New Years in Paris. Well, not really Christmas. Christmas was spent in Ottawa and the Montreal airport. Christmas dinner last year was a turkey club sandwich at an airport bar. I won't go into detail about it other than to say, it was pretty average. What followed the next two weeks though was definitely not average. Two weeks of some extraordinary dining in Paris. We didn't do any big name Michelin-three-star dining, but we did have several meals that we will always remember.
The trip began with what you see in the picture. I don't think any trip to Paris is complete without a trip to Berthillon. It is, simply put, the best ice cream in the world. Nothing else quite like it. The two flavours you see in the picture are the cassis and raspberry. It is hard to describe the flavours if you haven't had it yourself. Mine was the raspberry. Imagine the flavour of a freshly picked raspberry on summer's day with the sun warming your face. Not intensify that flavour 10 fold. That comes close. Incredible. Daphne had the cassis. I'd been raving about the cassis flavour at Berthillon for years. Her first bite may have been the most hyped bite of ice cream ever and it did not disappoint.
Yes, the cones are small. Yes, they are expensive. But this is the best ice cream in the world and this is how we started our trip to Paris. So stay tuned for more.
We had the raspberry too!

So glad you're back! Would love to hear your recommendations for Paris, as we're heading there on Saturday! I was sad when you moved to Ottawa as your blog introduced me to Phnom Penh (seriously) and I was looking forward to more Vancouver finds. Can you share the places you ate at in Paris?
